About the Auslander Mum

Hi, I’m Heidi.

Why Auslander? I’ve also been a Bule, Farang, Laowai, and Buitenlander. Auslander is German for foreigner (quite literally outsider) and of all the names we’ve been called, Auslander has the nicest ring to it. Plus, Potsdam, Germany was my first international home and the place I met my husband, and I still dream of the parks at San Soucci.

Why Mum? Because I have three wonderful kids – two of my womb and one of my heart. My twin boys, Aidan and Ethan, make me laugh everyday and I glory in their enthusiasm for life. My beautiful step-daughter Maddy (also known as the easiest child ever born) amazes me with her open heart and unexpected wisdom. A sincere thank you to their father, my wonderful husband of almost fifteen years (gasp!), for the very important part he plays in raising these children.

Not to be left out is my amazing family scattered all over the world. My nieces and nephews, my sisters and sisters-in-law, my brothers-in-law, and mostly my Mom and Dad. Hopefully they will be able to keep better track of me through this blog.

A little more about me? My passions are learning and laughing. And thankfully the two frequently go hand-in-hand. I am a teacher and I love working with children and other teachers. They inspire me daily with their openness, willingness, curiosity, and commitment to learning.

I also love homemaking.
